Riverside Gun Club Historical Military Rifle Match
29 September 2018
Our second military rifle match of 2018 went very well. Had perfect weather, nice attendance and a smooth well run match. Had a good mix of firearms, including World War 2 British Lee Enfield #1 Mk 4, Soviet SVD Dragunov and period AR-15’s. We raised the bar this year, with more challenging targets, movement, better steel strapping. Match was a fun easy paced shooting event.
First stage involved “Scoring Steel” hits on 10” round targets at 100 yards. Shooters had five rounds, in prone, sitting and offhand positions. Max score was 15 hits.
Second stage was a “Sniper” team event. Shooters worked to get three hits on painted steel targets.
Third stage involved “Assault”. Two person teams beginning at 100 yards, shoot two large silhouette, seven clay targets. Time was 30 seconds. Throw grenade, advance and shoot remaining clay targets. Get three grenade throws with a maximum firing time of one minute 30 seconds.
Last stage was “Pistol” event. Simple format shooting from 50 yards then moving forward to 25 yards. Required 15 shots from each distance, with five shots being fired single handed.

Big Thank you to Jeremy and Chip from CMP Armory, for bringing some class 3 firearms. We all enjoyed the historical and fun demonstrations afterwards. Congratulations to everyone how came out. Katie Cheek our only junior shooter, did great. Hope to have more young people come participate living history matches.
Tentatively planning another match on 30 March 2019. May have another class 3 machine gun demonstration.
Thank you,
Bob Beaver
