Historical Military Rifle Match Results (28-OCT-2017)

Riverside Gun Club Historical Military Rifle Match
28 October 2017

Started out a cool October morning for our final test military rifle fun match. Lit up the outside burn barrel and set up the range targets. Few folks got hit with home duties, but we ran match with four shooters and two visitors. Shooters brought U.S. 1903 Springfield, U.S. M1D Garand, Finnish Model 39 Mosin Nagant, and German G43 rifle.

Started out sighters on 10” round target at 100 yards. 30 rounds course of fire. 10 rounds prone, sitting and offhand. Time limit is three minutes per position. All hits on steel, will count for score.

Next we played Sniper by using four inch steel targets. Using period binoculars or original scope optics. Select spotter and shooter, and three rounds to acquire and hit designated targets. We shot off ammo cans, and rests from prone position. This proved a real challenge, with Jeremy getting two and Wayne hitting one target.

Final event was a two team, mano y mano shoot out. This event is at 100 yard line, using painted steel silhouette target. Unlimited time and ammo. We had a great time hitting them and working on making them fall.

Final scores:
Jeremy Cheek            1 – 1 – 1 = 3     Match Winner
Doug Armstrong       2 –  3 – 3 = 8
Wayne Broome         3 – 2 – 3 = 8
Bob Beaver                 3 – 3 – 3 = 9

We had an outstanding day breaking out our old rifles and shooting in a fun, friendly match. The steel helps make match move quick and we get instant feedback. Planning on the next match at the end of March, with trophy and prize money. Hope we can get a few more folks interested in historical match events in March 2018 to give out a trophy and awards.
