RGC Shotgun/Pistol Match Results for May 12, 2018
Summertime weather today and lots of shooting action, especially with the shotguns. Most of us expended over 40 rounds at various steel plates as well as stationary and flying(and I mean “really”flying) clays. Handguns got their fair share on steel and bad guy/hostage targets. Many thanks to Jerry and John for their help with creating and scoring their respective stages. Couldn’t do it without them.
TODAY’S WINNERS
Level 1
Jerry Lock(7);
Bob Beaver(9);
Danny Coggin(10)
Level 2
Boyce Lomax(6);
Dick Williams(13-386.56 secs.);
Ricky Pruitt(13-441.14 secs.);
Brian Davis(14)
Observation today showed way too many issues with our shotgun stages such as bad factory shot shells that were oversized and hung up in the chambers along with some “short-shucking” of those pump guns. Checking out your shell brands, making sure your barrels, chambers and magazine tubes are clean, having a variable choke system, as well as taking a little more time with practice drills can solve nearly all of these issues. Today’s scores were won and lost primarily due to shotgun failures whereas shotguns should be our most comfortable firearm to manipulate…well..except for those final stage flying missiles! We will be having a 3-Gun match in July so get busy on those shotgun weak spots.
Next month, June 9th, will be a Pistol/Only match with four stages. We will incorporate weak and strong hand shooting, “The Mover”, some moderate-range precision shooting and whatever else Jerry, John and I can cook up. Send us your ideas of something you would like to see and we’ll do it if possible!
